ABOUT KANTA ELECTRIC

Kanta Electric Corporation (Kanta), founded in 1991 by Prakash Kapadia (PK), reflects the strength of diversity the Electrical Industry in New York City – particularly the borough of Queens – offers. PK will be the first person to tell you that he and his company, as an MBE/DBE certified corporation, carry a strong sense of belonging to this community which has aided immensely in their growth. And although being a minority electrical contractor in a diverse community has been a value-added niche for Kanta, there is more to be said about what forms the foundation of success for the company. “We look forward to continued growth and success in the industry with the help of our valued partners and colleagues”, says PK, “And we are thankful to be in a position where we are able to take on uniquely challenging and complex projects for a diverse range of clientele. It is my vision to continue along this path as we position ourselves to move forward and grow.”

As an electrical contractor specializing in commercial and industrial electrical contracting, Kanta offers expertise in electric related systems, power distribution systems, HVAC control wiring, installation of fire alarm, public addressing, CCTV, sound and data, communications systems, and more.

Kanta focuses on quality workmanship, forward thinking, on-time project completion and safety standards to help them pave the way toward success. In 2009, Kanta built the very first wind and solar farm in New York City at the renowned Brooklyn Navy Yard. “We are happy to be at the forefront of the push towards sustainable and environmentally conscious construction methods, and we value any opportunities that allow us to expand our expertise in sustainable development”, says PK.

Some of Kanta’s roster of partners and clients include Skanska USA, TDX Construction, Turner Construction, the Department of Environmental Protection, Bronx Family and Criminal Courthouse for the Department of Citywide Administrative Services, Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, City University of New York, Port Authority, Department of Design and Construction, and Columbia University.

Kanta’s business memberships include the Subcontractors Trade Association, National Minority Business Council, New York State Association of Minority Contractors, and the Regional Alliance for Small Contractors. PK is also involved with the management of the Association of Electrical Contractors (AEC) and sits on the board of the Society of Indo-American Architects and Engineers.

Customer satisfaction has always remained extremely high on Kanta’s list of priorities. It is this commitment to quality and the willingness to take on increasingly complex and unique projects that resulted in Kanta being recognized as the “2011 Trade Contractor of the Year” by the Regional Alliance for Small Contractors.
